As we all know, I am huge Oliver Goldsmith fan. His booth at the Vision Expo was full of energy and spectacular designs. Oliver Goldsmith is an eyewear icon and living legend. Previously, I interviewed Mr. Goldsmith via email and have followed his brand religiously. Meeting him in person at the Vision Expo was an honor and one of the main reasons I attended the Expo. The conversation which I had with Mr. Goldsmith clearly displayed the genuine love he has for eyewear and the priceless knowledge he possess. I love the brand’s heritage and his passion for vintage eyewear. One of my favorite quotes of his was in reference to vintage designers: “If anyone does vintage, ask them how old their designer is.” LMAO! The reason for his statement was one I never thought of but makes a lot of sense. Knowing what vintage looks like is not the same as knowing how to construct a vintage piece of eyewear. While one may be able to recreate a look, the structure, construction and engineering may very well be missing. So all you vintage designers need to pay homage and think about that. POW! You have to love this man’s personality and wit. The message I got from Mr. Goldsmith is the story behind the brand speaks volumes and sells itself. Every time I hear the Oliver Goldsmith story I feel like I am a part of something special.
The best part about visiting Mr. Goldsmith’s booth was having him personally show my wife and I his entire collection. Yes, the ENTIRE collection. We were in awe of the amazing craftsmanship, intricate detail, and story that each frame possessed.
I loved every piece that he presented however my favorite was the Ballyhoo model. The shape and bridge fit my wife to perfection. Once my wife tried these frames on I think I fell in LOVE with her again. It’s something about her in luxury eyewear that gets me all riled up…ahhaha. Lets just say I will be purchasing this frame in the near future…wink!
Towards the end of showcasing his amazing collection, Mr. Goldsmith expressed that he had a surprise. Slowly he pulled out a top secret case and VOILA! Right before my eyes was his new collection, The Castle. This collection will blow your socks off. I am talking limited edition, electrifying colors, well engineered, and most importantly the heritage behind the brand. The Castle Collection consists of 4 special Limited Edition frames named after British Castles. The four are the WINDSOR, ARUNDEL, DURHAM, and LINCOLN.
Well, I must say I enjoyed chilling with an eyewear icon and I am looking forward to seeing what else is in the pipeline for 2014. Thanks again Mr. Goldsmith!
